DOWNLOAD: Dear Lions – Boarding House
A lot of comparisons have surrounded the indie-rock band Dear Lions since first releasing their self-titled debut back in the spring. They’ve ranged from Jens Lekman to The Smiths, even all the way to Big Star, but while their influences are notable and often evident, what makes their music so enjoyable are the warm and welcoming vocals of Ricky Lewis matched with Adam Rubenstein’s dream-like soundscapes on guitar.

Officially releasing their second EP entitled, Lying to My Lies, The 405 offered a first taste premiering the album’s debut single “Exactly the Same.” Now available for free download via their Bandcamp, The four-song EP picks up where the guys left off on their self-titled release, while fleshing out their sound to new, impressive heights.

Music Video: Xombie – St. Beautiful
KILLER new band from NYC, named Xombie, released a hot new video for their single “St. Beautiful” from their debut full length album, “Swaggaholix: Deluxe Edition” (being released on Feb. 1). Xombie has such a HUGE sound that they had to create a new music genre to fit it called, “hood metal”. Think: Hollywood Undead meets Rage Against The Machine with a twist of Linkin Park. This band is DOPE with a kick-ass sound that permeates the streets of NYC with hints of the Sunset Strip vibe.

This video for “St. Beautiful” was filmed on a rooftop in East Williamsburg and showcases what Xombie does best: ROCK!!

Originally concieved around 2007 named from the title track Nibiru. It is based around the idea that we live in a binary solar system with two suns, our sun and a brown dwarf. At the end of every era, as portrayed many ancient cultures and religions, a cataclysm befalls the planet, it is cleaned of everything and the cycle of life starts once again.

The world is awash with what could be called consipracy theories about ‘the end times’ as seemingly more disasters, social upheaval and rapid changes take place on our planet with incresing intensity every day. If we have found with technology such an object and it was heading straight for us, could we ever stop it? Many people now live in fear that something big is around the corner. Is it Nibiru the rogue brown dwarf star?

The music is lies somewhere between experimental Indie, Glitchcore and Space Rock. At nearly 30 minutes long the opening song on the album gains in speed and intensity throughout, theatrical lyrical excerts are taken from ‘The Emerald Tablets Of Thoth’ known to the Alchemists, hidden knowledge and wisdom long regarded by scholars such as Aristotle, Isac Newton and Alexander The Great. Experimental analogue synths wash over guitars through many movements and passages creating a titanic marathon production of ‘Space Rock’ doomsday creation.

The other six tracks on the album, mix styles like Retro Pop and New Wave Punk. A video single Banyan Tree (Indie Rock), one film soundtrack Killing Disko (Post Punk) following more science fiction or maybe actual science facts that have come from alternative to mainstream thinking about the grandest forseen grizzly end to date.

With his first-ever solo album, “Kind Ghosts,” Billboard-honored singer/songwriter Derek Nicoletto flaunts his knack for infusing unique pop hooks, vivid lyrical imagery and evocative instrumentation into what could be called full-bodied electropop collection of singles. Shaped by Platinum-selling producer Jamie Siegel (Taking Back Sunday, The Roots), Nicoletto’s new direction in “Kind Ghosts” highlights his pure vocal talent upon a backdrop of bubbly, yet sensitive electronica with a signature flair of rocky soulfulness.

DOWNLOAD: Saidah Baba Talibah – So Cool
Toronto soul-belter Saidah Baba Talibah has thus far lived up to the title of her new video ‘So Cool,’ investing her recently released, fan-funded debut album ‘(S)Cream’ with her sexy personality and rock-infused sound.

Both are at the forefront of ‘So Cool,’ which cuts between a blindfolded performance and some S&M-esque bedroom play with actor Adrian Holmes, currently filming ‘Elysium’ opposite Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.

“Saidah Baba Talibah is a very real and raw artist, with a true sense of originality,” Holmes tells Spinner. “I had a great time collaborating with Saidah as artists telling a dynamic, compelling story. I loved the edginess of the song as well. It’s a very powerful unique song that was well captured by director Charles Wahl in the most complimentary way.”

“His vision was so clear and he captured the sensuality, strength, vulnerability and the assurance within the song,” agrees Talibah, also shouting-out the rest of the cast and crew. “I couldn’t have asked for anything more perfect.”

STREAM: Yung Nation -Club Rock
You’d be forgiven for thinking that “iYess”, the title of Yung Nation’s recent mixtape is a tribute of sorts to Apple or Steve Jobs but in fact it’s just one of many vernacular terms invented by the Dallas duo and picked up by their many loyal supporters; ‘iyess’ – an over-exaggeration of the affirmative, a super YES, if you will

The indie-rock duo, formerly of Nickelodeon’s Naked Brothers band have shed their old clothes and emerged with a mature sound that showcases their musical chops and shows them growing up alongside their fanbase. The two have also begun to separate themselves as unique individuals as they grow.

Nat Wolff stars alongside a mannequin in the video for “Maybe,” which premiered on Teen Vogue and is based loosely on the movie “Lars and the Real Girl” and entails an unusual love triangle with a picture-perfect ending.

The Esoteric Gender might be born in Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital, but the band draws its roots from all over the world. Four members, four different countries: England, France, Denmark, Canada. This explains the vast scope of genres their music touches, from dance to triphop, from rock to electronica.

They have won the support of legendary producer/engineer Tony Platt (Bob Marley, AC/DC, Sparks) describing them as “a favorite of [his] for quite a long time now”, and adding “they deserve their music to be heard far and wide”, and of British magazine Dazed & Confused, who picked them as one of their favorite acts of the 2010 Iceland Airwaves music festival, as well as other
newspapers and music industry figures from Iceland.

Last February, they released their first EP, “Prelude”, which remained among the top selling albums of fair-trade website gogoyoko.com for four weeks without any promotion.
